Otobong Nkanga

Malmö Konsthall, Malmö, Sweden

10 October – 28 March

Lisson is pleased to congratulate Otobong Nkanga on the opening of I dreamt of you in colours at Malmö Konsthall, Sweden, on view through 28 March 2027. The first large-scale presentation of Nkanga’s work in Sweden, the exhibition brings together works from across her multidisciplinary practice, including drawings, paintings, installations, tapestries, photographs, videos, sculpture, ceramics and performance. The survey follows presentations at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne.

Working across these forms, Nkanga examines the complex relationships between bodies, land and natural resources, tracing the social and political histories embedded in materials and landscapes. Her practice considers the lasting effects of colonial exploitation and resource extraction, while exploring the interdependence of human and ecological systems and the possibilities for repair and transformation.

Nkanga’s opening in Malmö follows her receipt of the 2026 Sikkens Prize, recognising her use of colour. Later this month, Humus Blues opens at Singer Laren on 27 October, bringing together works from across her practice alongside new work made specifically for the exhibition. The presentation considers colour in relation to memory, the earth and ecology, and the histories shared by people and place.
