Opening in November: Ryan Gander’s ‘Maybe’ at Towner Eastbourne

Lisson is pleased to announce that Ryan Gander’s Maybe opens at Towner Eastbourne on 14 November, marking the artist’s first UK solo exhibition in nearly 20 years. Bringing together new works with existing and rarely seen pieces, the exhibition explores imagination’s potential to reshape perceptions of the surrounding world

Spanning three rooms across Towner’s top floor and extending into the gallery’s public spaces, Maybe presents works that play with language, perception, technology and the everyday. Among the highlights is Closed systems (2024), an expansive installation of colourful repurposed toys, alongside Ryan Waiting (2024), Gander’s first artificial intelligence and virtual reality work. The exhibition also introduces For I am a Sign, a new series of paintings developed in collaboration with the artist’s non-verbal autistic son, which explores the relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication.

Known for his playful, associative, and conceptually driven approach, Gander describes his practice as a way of exploring ideas and inviting viewers into narratives that shift between the familiar and the unexpected.

Maybe: Ryan Gander is on view at Towner Eastbourne from 14 November 2026 to 11 April 2027.
