Tony Bechara Book Launch and Conversation at Parrish Art Museum, 20 September
On 20 September, Parrish Art Museum will host a conversation and book launch held in conjunction with ‘Tony Bechara: An Artist of Many Worlds’, the artist’s first comprehensive retrospective, on view through 1 November 2026.
Moderated by Parrish Executive Director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut, the event will bring together Phong Bui, Publisher and Artistic Director of The Brooklyn Rail, and Parrish Associate Curator Kaitlin Halloran. The conversation will celebrate the publication of the first monograph devoted to Bechara, published by El Museo del Barrio and KMEC Books.
Born in Puerto Rico and based in New York, Tony Bechara (1942–2025) developed a distinctive abstract practice centred on colour, geometry and systems of order. Using hand-mapped grids and analog mathematical formulas, he pixelated compositions that explore the relationship between light, vision, perception and chance.
